It’s been a long time

Hello all – it has been a long time since posting.  Ron and I took our yearly trip to Colorado last week with a few changes (not many but a few).  Here are a few pics.

We saw endless miles of wind turbines in route – and Maggie loves to hang out the window

We always set a first long day and land in Raton, New Mexico for a camping night.  colorado2013 002colorado2013 008colorado2013 011

The ride the next morning is always exciting as you enter in to Colorado and drive along the river in the Royal Gorge area.  Our first night in Colorado was spent camping in the Blue Mesa area.  We got there pretty early and it is only 50 miles one way to Lake City so of course we had to make a drive in  to see the old digs & eat some yummy grub – always a treat.

Then off the next morning for three days to Ouray KOA    one of our “new” favorite campgrounds.  Yes ---- we will be going back one day.  They rent nice cabins just in case you need to know – also rent a Teepee

fully furnished!!!   Our spot was right up again the flowing river which is music to sleep by.  They had entertainment, BBQ’s, serve breakfast & lunch at the cafe

We rested up that afternoon then headed to Ouray (4miles in to town) in the morning.  Shopped the shops &  had a wonderful lunch

Now its off to a jeep trail – Imogene Pass

The water falls & wildflowers were amazing -  Ron wanted me to photograph the ledge you drive under   very narrow

The next day we took off to Telluride via another jeep trail   -  Last Dollar Road          it was full of Aspens & flowers as well      it was starting to rain that day so many of the pictures appear smoky

Telluride was new to us – we walked endless blocks then off to lunch to a cute sandwich place called Maggie’s.  Can’t go wrong there !!!   Ron knows the engineer that help build the gondola in town that goes from village to village.  The gondola is pet friendly so off we went.

I didn’t take pictures from inside since we were packed like sardines –  look close at the ones I took from the ground.  I am not one for heights so believe me it was better to chat then look down.

After several days we headed back to the Blue Mesa area to a new and different campground.  It was very pretty – quiet

Time to head east   towards home via Salida what a cute little town    I asked a local where the best place was to eat lunch and she did not steer us wrong  fabulous lunch & scenery along the river.  They

have an obstacle course set up for kayaks and many were practicing which was so interesting to watch.  Great food – great company and wonderful scenery one can’t go wrong.

Time to go home – one more night in Raton then one last stop at a winery we had not been in to yet -  Llano Estacado Winery in Lubbock, Texas.
